Basic Water Rescue

Description
For the safety of the children, youth, and families served, staff will learn the basics of how to be safe in and around the water. Attendees will learn important tools for safety including careful monitoring of swimmers, recognizing the signs of drowning, following posted signs and rules, making a plan for an aquatic emergency, calling for help, and how to rescue distressed swimmers without putting themselves in danger. Attendees then also practice some of the rescue and swimming skills in a local area pool. This training will equip direct service providers with the knowledge and skills to safely intervene in water related emergencies of their clients, and the protocol to call for emergency personnel when needed. Upon completion, attendee’s will be certified in the American Red Cross Basic Water Safety course for 3 years.
